Day 1

Marrakech to Dades Valley

Your adventure begins early in the morning as you leave Marrakech and climb into the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Along the way, you will admire panoramic views of traditional Berber villages built into the mountainsides. The first major stop is the famous Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most impressive fortified villages, renowned for its appearances in numerous international films.
 
After exploring the ksar, you continue to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Gateway to the Sahara, where you can see the historic Taourirt Kasbah and learn about the region’s rich cinema history. In the afternoon, the journey takes you through the fragrant Valley of the Roses in Kalaat M’Gouna before arriving at the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley, where you spend the night surrounded by stunning rock formations.

Day 2

Dades Valley to Merzouga (Sahara Desert)

After breakfast, the road leads you through the impressive Dades Gorges and onward to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise to 300 meters. You will have time to walk through this natural wonder and enjoy the cool river that flows beneath the cliffs.
 
The journey continues south through Erfoud, known for its fossils, and Rissani, home to the historic Sijilmassa and considered the cradle of Morocco’s Alaouite dynasty. By late afternoon, you reach Merzouga, where your desert adventure truly begins. You will meet your camel caravan and ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi while watching a magical Sahara sunset. The evening is spent in a traditional or luxury desert camp, enjoying a Berber dinner, live drum music around the campfire, and sleeping under a sky filled with stars.

Day 3

Merzouga Desert Exploration

Wake up early to witness one of the most unforgettable moments of your trip: sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, you explore the Merzouga region on a 4×4 desert tour. You will visit nomadic families to share tea and learn about their lifestyle, discover the village of Khamlia and listen to traditional Gnawa music, and explore hidden desert landscapes around the dunes.

Adventurous travelers can try sandboarding, and depending on the season, you may even see the temporary Merzouga Lake attracting migratory birds. In the evening, you return either to your desert camp or to a comfortable hotel near the dunes for another peaceful night in the Sahara.

Day 4

Merzouga to Ouarzazate

After breakfast, the journey heads west toward Ouarzazate, taking a different scenic route. You stop in Rissani to explore its traditional souk, especially lively on market days.
 
The drive continues through the vast palm groves and ancient kasbahs of the Draa Valley, following Morocco’s longest river and passing through timeless desert scenery. By evening, you arrive in Ouarzazate for your final overnight stay, giving you time to relax after a day of beautiful landscapes.

Day 5

Ouarzazate to Marrakech

On your final day, you may have time to visit the film studios or explore Taourirt Kasbah before beginning the return journey to Marrakech. Crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, you arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, bringing your 5-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert to a memorable end.
