Day 1

Fes to Merzouga

Your trip starts with a drive from Fes heading North through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Your first stop along the way will be Ifrane, a small town built in the French style and known for its clean streets. From there, you will head to the cedar forest close to Azrou – home of the Barbary macaque monkeys, which live in the ancient cedar trees.

Once you have passed through the town of Midelt, the scenery will start to change as you head into Ziz Valley. This section of your journey to the east provides you with a look at the palm trees that make up one of the largest palm groves in Morocco. A quick stop at a panoramic viewpoint allows you to witness the view of thousands of palm trees.

You arrive in Merzouga in the early evening; it is here that you will commence your camel trek. The experience of crossing the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun sets will no doubt be a highlight of your trip. Dinner will be served at your desert camp with traditional music and the stars overhead.

Day 2

Merzouga Desert Exploration

The entire day is spent exploring the desert. You start your day with a visit to Khamlia village and listen to local musicians perform their traditional Gnawa music.

After this, you will go to see an nomadic family that lives and thrives in one of the dunes and learn all about their way of life. The tour will continue on to Rissani, a historic city known for its traditional souk and delicious local cuisine. One of the most popular local dishes in Rissani can be found at the market is Medfouna.

At the end of the day you will return to Merzouga and either camp in the desert or stay in a hotel close to the dunes for the night.

Day 3

Merzouga to Fes

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, a peaceful moment that many travelers consider the highlight of the trip.

After breakfast, the journey back to Fes begins. On the way you stop in Erfoud, a town known for fossil workshops, before continuing toward Midelt for lunch.

In the late afternoon you cross the Middle Atlas Mountains again and arrive back in Fes, marking the end of your Sahara adventure.
