Day 1

Arrival in Marrakech

The adventure waits for you in one of Morocco’s most interesting cities: Marrakech! Upon your arrival at the airport, you will receive a warm welcome and transfer to your riad (traditional hotel) in the ancient citadel.

You will begin your exploration of Marrakech in Jemaa el Fna, the central square of the city, which transforms into an exciting, bustling marketplace when the sun goes down with music,

stories being told, and delicious street food; providing an exceptional introduction to Morocco and offering an opportunity to experience both traditional and modern cuisine, as well as fresh squeezed orange juice.

Day 2

Marrakech Guided City Tour

You will be taken on a guided tour of Marrakech’s historic sites today. Your day will begin with a trip to the Bahia Palace, an excellent example of Moroccan architecture featuring beautifully designed courtyards and tranquil gardens.

You will also see Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech and a major landmark in the city, from the outside (a souvenir photo opportunity, perhaps?).

After lunch, your guide will take you to Majorelle Garden (which features beautiful colors and a variety of exotic plant life) and then through the bustling souks of the medina, which contain many artisans selling handmade carpets, pottery, leather goods, and spices.

Day 3

Marrakech to Dades Valley via Ait Benhaddou

Following breakfast, you will make your way into the High Atlas Mountains via scenic roads that rise through beautiful countryside and Berber settlements before reaching the well-known Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical mud-built buildings.

Once you have had a chance to explore the Kasbah and some of its small alleyways, you will continue to Ouarzazate (the so-called “Gateway to the Desert”) and the location of numerous film studios.

From Ouarzazate, the tour takes you through the valley of roses before heading into the stunning Dades Valley, where you will spend the night next to the distinctive rock formations that characterise the area.

Day 4

Dades Valley to Merzouga Sahara Desert

Your day will start with a drive out to the beautiful Todra Gorge. The high limestone cliffs create an incredible natural setting in Morocco, set against a narrow valley below. Take a stroll along the river and experience the tranquility of the area.

The next leg of your trip is to the Sahara Desert, arriving in Merzouga in the late afternoon as you view the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in the distance.

You will board a camel caravan and ride through the dunes as the sun sets, arriving at your desert camp for dinner and traditional music around the fire while stargazing.

5

Day 5

Merzouga to Fes

Many travelers find waking up early to see the sunrise in the Sahara to be a very special experience. Then after breakfast, you’ll leave the desert and start heading north.

You’ll drive through the green Ziz Valley, filled with palm trees and oasis villages, and then into the Middle Atlas Mountains. You may be able to stop in Ajour (Azrou), where there is a cedar forest, to see some Barbary macaques that live there. Finally, in the evening, you will arrive in the historic city of Fes.

6

Day 6

Fes Guided City Tour

You will discover some of Morocco’s most notable places on the day that is devoted to exploring Fes, arguably among the top cities for cultural significance in the country, with a local tour guide by your side to navigate through the ancient Fes el Bali Medina, which is recognised by many to be one of the largest pedestrian urban areas throughout the globe.

You will visit well-known locations throughout the Medina, such as the famous leather tanneries, the stunning Al Attarine Madrasa, and the historical Bab Boujloud.

While meandering through the narrow streets, you will observe artisans working within their small venues creating pottery, weaving textile and fabricating metalwork using traditional techniques that have been practiced for ages.

7

Day 7

Fes to Chefchaouen via Volubilis

After you are finished with breakfast, we will leave for northern Morocco, heading straight for the Rif Mountains. Our first stop will be Volubilis, which is one of the highest-quality preserved Roman archaeological sites still remaining in the country of Morocco. The ruins of Volubilis contain many beautiful mosaics and columns that show whatwe life was like in North Africa during the time of the Roman Empire.

After we leave Volubilis, we will travel through breathtaking mountain scenery until you arrive at Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen is a truly peaceful place that has a reputation for its blue-painted buildings and its relaxed atmosphere. You may want to spend the evening walking through the quaint cobblestoned streets of this amazing little town.

8

Day 8

Chefchaouen Exploration

Enjoy today exploring Chefchaouen. You can explore the quiet streets of the medina, find some artisans selling their goods, and sit at one of the outdoor cafés at the main square (Outa el Hammam) to take in the beautiful views of the kasbah.

The Spanish Mosque, located on a hill outside of town, provides fantastic panoramic views of the city and the mountains as far away. Watching the sunset from this vantage point is one of my cherished memories of visiting Chefchaouen.

9

Day 9

Chefchaouen to Tangier

Leave the Rif mountain area and head north to Tangier on the Atlantic coast. Historically, Tangier has been one of the oldest ports linking Africa with Europe.

You can go see Cape Spartel, which is located at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The Caves of Hercules are also a popular natural site where mythology meets the past and they are located near Tangier.

You can also wander through Tangier’s Kasbah and medina, both of which are filled with whitewashed buildings overlooking the water.

10

Day 10

Tangier to Rabat or Casablanca

As you travel southward along Morocco’s coastline today, you may be able to stop in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, to see some tourist attractions, including the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

Alternatively, you may continue on to Casablanca, which is the largest city in Morocco, where you will find the beautiful Hassan II Mosque situated on the Atlantic Ocean.
